Now graduating from Nashua High School South, he's setting an example of leadership to his fellow classmates. He ended his senior year with straight A grades and a nearly full scholarship to New England College. He delivered a motivating speech to the graduating class of 2012 as the recipient of the ACE Award. The Accepting the Challenge of Excellence award is an honor bestowed on high school students by the Nashua Exchange Club, and this year's recipient from Nashua High South was Fernandez.
MANCHESTER A little less than a year ago, Moses Fernandez had what he called a "work first, school whenever" attitude when it came to his education.
Over the course of the ceremony, a handful of students, faculty members and honorary guests spoke at the podium to deliver sound advice to the graduating seniors.
"Use it to navigate your own life on your own path," Murray said. "And in that life, be sure to share your gifts, your talents, yourself with your fellow man."
Before the graduates were granted their diplomas, Seusing took a moment to recognize several students Football Shoes Studs for their academic achievements and professional aspirations. With more than 400 students moving on to more than 100 different colleges as well as various professions, it seemed only fitting that the class officers read aloud Dr. Seuss's "Oh, the Places You'll Go!"
She encouraged them to turn the trendy saying into "something more meaningful."
"Success is not the money you make or the lifestyle you live," Appasani said. "Success is not a measure of power, wealth, or status; but is achieved by those who have true happiness in their lives. Remember to do what makes you happy."
"Imagine all the things you would try if you knew you could not fail," Stanley said. He went on to say that they should not fear failure, "Anyone who has ever made it had to dream big to get there so what's to lose?"
Principal Jennifer Seusing opened the commencement ceremony by praising the graduating seniors who exemplified leadership, including Fernandez. She encouraged them to cherish the memories of their senior week, powder puff games, and of course, their senior prom.
"I realized the number one reason I wanted to graduate was because I wanted to graduate with you," Fernandez said to the rest of his class. "Thank you for motivating me, class of 2012."
Panthers look to 'write our own stories'
Salutatorian Jacqueline Gillis, who will be attending Tufts University in the fall, encouraged her classmates to pursue their passions.
Class valedictorian Sreenivas Appasani, who will be attending the California Institute of Technology, reminded his classmates of the meaning of success.

of the No Bell Award for Outstanding Teacher. She spoke to the students about "YOLO," a catchy acronym derived from a Twitter hashtag, which stands for "you only live once."
Class Co Presidents Tyler Stanley and Hannah Drake, who will be attending the Art Institute of California and the University of New Hampshire, respectively, encouraged their fellow classmates with further life lessons.
